“Accident Recovery Chain”

2010 - Acrylic on Canvas

This artwork was inspired by Scott’s depiction of his motorcycle accident and recovery. Motorcycles symbolize freedom; to travel with the wind in your face, amazing power, and the thrill of living on the edge. Throwing caution aside and enjoying this type of activity does include the possibility of significant injury.

After an accident the process of recovery is quite systematic. It can include ambulatory aid, emergency or surgical care, hospitalization, and physical therapy.

One area of the painting depicts the chaos occurring during a motorcycle accident. I want this area to have a sense of twisting motion and varied depth. In contrast to that area I have painted a grid to represent the system of recovery. It is designed using cool colors and hard edges to give a static quality.

The painting was created using metallic, fluid, and heavy bodied acrylic paints. The surface is built up through numerous layers to give the artwork a rich surface quality.

Value: $2,000
