Item #4 Ricco DiStefano, Artist “An Angel Emerges” For me, the circular motion represents the ways in which we are all connected. It represents the vortex through which an angel (the donor) appeared to provide the gift of life to a stranger. My wish is that the viewer projects his or her own story onto the canvas. In this way, my art has a life of its own. My motto is, “I do not attempt to paint the answers, only the questions.” My intent was to build a primarily abstract, mixed-media painting. The process begins with an empty canvas, onto which I add a texture of marble-dust based modeling paste. Then the first layer of paint is applied, followed by concrete dust and ground Styrofoam for more texture. Then more layers of paint. I have no need for a palette, as I consider the canvas to be my palette. And so, the paint is applied directly to the canvas, and there it is blended, scraped, rubbed with rags, and my hands, until it evolves into the finished painting. I like to think that the painting tells me what it wants to be as I am only a conduit for the creative flow of energy. Value: $1,200 Donor: Ricco DiStefano |
